Mental Health Resources

South African Depression & Anxiety Group - SADAG  

SADAG is Africa’s largest mental health support and advocacy group. Call them on 0800 121 314 if you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or just need a little support.  

In case of emergency, they have a 24-hour tollfree Suicide Crisis Helpline: 0800 567 567 

Lifeline South Africa  

Lifeline is a 24-hour crisis intervention service that offers mental and emotional health support through programmes that are preventative and responsive. 

South African Federation For Mental Health

SAFMH offers free, compassionate and confidential support by phone to those who may be experiencing emotional distress. Contact them on 011 781 1852 

 

 

Support for Substance Abuse

Alcoholics Anonymous South Africa

AA is a worldwide fellowship for alcoholics supporting those choosing to be sober. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem 

Narcotics Anonymous South Africa

NA is a free, non-profit fellowship of people for whom drugs have become a major problem. NA’s program is open to addicts of all ages, nationalities, cultures, creed, gender identity, and religions.  

South African National Council on Alcoholism and drug Dependence

SANCA offers a variety of services for the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. Established in 1956, it has independently operated societies and counselling centers in all nine provinces. 0861 173 422
