#FairKitchens promotes mental health awareness and support for every Chef in every kitchen.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, #FairKitchens is keeping mental health in the industry top of mind and continuing the conversation that sometimes it’s OK to not be OK. With the everyday pressure of our industry, the uncertainty of life, and juggling our personal lives, sometimes it can all become a little too much. And that’s OK.

Mental Health Awareness Month is an important opportunity for everyone associated with the foodservice industry to consider their role in contributing to a happy and supportive kitchen culture.

We encourage every Chef to get the support they need

We encourage every Chef to get the support they need.

Research shows that foodservice workers are at greater risk than most for depression, substance abuse and anxiety. Whilst unusual hours, a fast-paced environment and dealing with tricky customers are part of the job, these mental health problems are often exacerbated by job stress, such as:

  • Workload (both excessive and insufficient work)
  • Lack of recognition at work
  • Poor interpersonal relationships
  • Poor working conditions
  • Poor leadership and communication
  • Conflicting home and work demands

It is important to remember that experiencing depression or anxiety is okay. There is great strength in being honest about our feelings and asking for the support we need.
