After successfully launching the Future Menus 2024 trend report in Durban, we brought our global trends to Johannesburg on 4 June 2024 to unveil them there!

Before the launch kicked off, our second epic cook-off took place as 6 top Chefs stepped into the culinary arena to battle it out for the coveted title of Future Menus 2024 Chef of the Year!

Hosted at The South African Chefs Association in Johannesburg, we unveiled the latest menu trends of 2024 for the second time, introducing them to our local industry experts, customers, and partners. 

The atmosphere was electric as passionate foodservice professionals came together to taste, share, and savour the future of food.

INSIGHTS FROM INDUSTRY EXPERTS: THE FUTURE IS NOW!

We explored all things trends, emphasising the need for Chefs to stay ahead in the ever-evolving culinary world. With guest speakers and a panel of professional Chefs, we sparked vibrant discussions about the future of food and the importance of balancing trends with personal culinary style. Highlights from the panel included: 

“Trends are what our diners want. For a business to be profitable, they must go with what the market wants. And local abundance is a key trend taking off.”

“There’s a move towards healthy eating. We have to make delicious food while keeping the health aspect of our customer in mind. Vegetables are not enough. We need to get the mix right.”

TASTING THE FUTURE

After our enlightening discussions, guests set off on a culinary adventure, sampling 4 of the 8 trends transforming the South African food scene. Each station showcased innovative and delicious creations by our talented chefs.

FEEL-GOOD FOOD

This station served up healthy bites that proved nutritious food can be utterly delicious!

MODERNISED COMFORT FOOD

Guests indulged in a fusion of nutrition and comfort classics, with standout dishes like a deconstructed lamb shank lasagna.

LOW-WASTE MENUS

A crucial trend for us, this station demonstrated creative methods to minimise kitchen waste while maximising flavour.

THE NEW SHARING

Wrapping up the journey, our final stop was a shared lunch, a true South African feast crafted by Chef Absa. Drawing inspiration from his passion for traditional cuisine, this communal dining experience spotlighted grains and pulses, uniting everyone to savour, share, and indulge in the flavours of a true foodie celebration.
