Good old South African favorite, bread dough shaped into balls and deep fried. These vetkoek can be filled with curried mince or chicken mayo

Preparation

  1. Method:

    • In a bowl mix all dry ingredients, make a well in the middle and add warm water to make a dough. Knead well for about 10 minutes
    • Cover and let the dough rest for 1hr in a warm place to raise double in size.
    • Divide into 16 balls on a floured surface.
    • Heat the oil, flatten the balls slightly and fry one side till golden brown and turn over to the other side. Repeat until all are done.

    Chefs Tip: Cut in half and fill with curried mince, or cheese and cold meat, or chicken mayo
